Located on the upper level and second floor, the Niles Public Library
District's Adult and Young Adult Reference Services Department includes
a broad range of materials, online resources and specialized documents.
Thousands of questions per month are answered in person and over the
phone. Interlibrary loans are also available to district cardholders
for items not owned by the Library. Librarians are available to assist
patrons with research, and brief questions can be answered over the
phone.
The Reference Desk is staffed at all times the Library is open.

NPLD's large reference collection contains both print and non-print
resources covering a vast array of topics. From encyclopedias to specialized
books, the collection offers information in the areas of medicine, science,
technology, history, literature, religion, geography, business and much
more. Additional resources include a large collection of newspapers,
magazines, maps and reference materials.

Collection
The non-fiction collection, including new non-fiction, is located on
the second floor of the Library. Books are arranged by the Dewey decimal
classification and can be easily located by using the following subject

Research Room
A variety of online resources are available to patrons in the Database
Research Room. The Chicago Tribune, NewsIllinois, CollegeSource, EBSCO
Online, Grolier Online, Novelist, Reference USA and FirstSearch are
just a few of the popular online sources. These computerized reference
tools assist patrons with locating national business and residential
phone numbers, company reports, current affairs, college information,
health, finance and investment, job and careers, newspaper articles
and much more.
Tutoring
and Instruction
Appointments can be made with Reference staff to conduct one-on-one
or small group instructional classes on searching NPLD's online products
or the Library's online catalog.
