Steve Dawson's Songwriting Workshop

Registration required. Using his own songs as examples Dawson will explore inspiration, follow-through, crafting, editing and arranging and look at the building blocks of all songs: chords, melody, harmony, rhythm and lyrics. He has taught songwriting classes for 10 years at Chicago’s legendary Old Town School of Folk Music. Questions are encouraged. Bring a notebook and something to write with.

15 Minute Arrangements for Summer Entertaining

Registration Req. Barb Ottolino, The Cultivated Choice demonstrates quick and easy, yet stunningly inexpensive arrangements for summer celebrations. Using surprising plant material from the grocer and cut from the yard, learn which plants are safe with food, how to integrate herbs, flowers, foliage and fresh garden produce into arrangements, and ways to use recycled containers for stunning "give-aways" for friends and neighbors. Several lucky attendees will leave with arrangements, but everyone gets Barb’s list of resources and quick reference sheets.

Bubble and Squawk Cookbook Discussion

Ever wonder if a cookbook is right for you? Every other month we will have a discussion on a cookbook. Choose a recipe from a book selected, make the recipe and bring the completed dish to the discussion. The night of the discussion we will sample the dishes and discuss the recipes and the book. Participants must bring a dish to participate. June's featured cookbook is Gale Gand's Lunch! by Gale Gand. Copies will be available at the 3rd floor Adult Services desk.

Citizens Utility Board: Utility Bill Clinic

Free, one-on-one consultation with a CUB expert who will review your home gas, electric and telephone bills and recommend ways to cut costs.
Registration opens Sept. 1. Call 1-877-782-7005 or email CUB at events@citizensutilityboard.org to reserve an approximate start time. When you arrive, you will be given a number; be prepared to wait your turn. CUB has capped this event at 30 people.
