Join us for an event celebrating comics and pop culture. MeTV's Svengoolie will be a special guest hosting a meet and greet for fans. Fandom Fest will feature an artist alley, trivia contests, a cosplay parade, creative workshops, and more family-friendly fun. We encourage attendees to come dressed as their favorite character. All ages welcome. Free admission.

Cosplay Guidelines

This is an all ages, family friendly event. Menacing or frightful costumes won’t fit in this event. Outfits deemed offensive by staff will be asked to leave or change. There will be a weapons check, which means no real weaponry. Prop weapons that are approved will be tagged as such. No sharp edges or projectiles (which means no Nerf bullets) will be allowed. 



Please consider public transportation. Pace Bus 226 runs past the Library. Click here for the Pace Bus 226 schedule.

Parking will be available at the following locations:

  • 5th 3rd Bank, 7100 W. Oakton Street
  • Culver Elementary School, 6901 W. Oakton Street
  • The Village of Niles Administration Building (Village Hall), 1000 Civic Center Drive

Please respect our neighbors to the north and do not park on Oakton Court.


Fandom Fest Inspired Programs

Cardboard Costume Design Studio

Wed., Aug. 2, 2-3:30pm

Grades 4 and up are welcome to drop in and design a cardboard costume, shield, or mask. This event is 2+ weeks before the Library's Comic Con, so get busy making a fun costume element.


Holy Cosplay Workshop, Batman!
Fri, Aug. 11, 1-3pm

For Grades 7 and up. Putting the finishing touches on your costume for Fandom Fest? Throwing something together at the last minute? We're here to help! Bring your materials and ideas. We've got sewing machines, fabric paint and markers, various hand tools, and constructive advice.


Hack Your Fandom Fest Photos

Fri., Sept. 8, 5:30-6:30pm

Learn a few tips and tricks for doing creative things with the green screen photos you took at Fandom Fest. Take home a free print!


No Carve Fandom Pumpkin Decorating Contest

Sun., Oct. 22–Sat., Oct 27

All ages are invited to paint or decorate a fandom pumpkin. The only rule is no carving. Drop off all entries in the Teen Underground the week of October 22-27. Winners will be announced on Sunday, October 28. Gift certificates for each of three age groups: 10 years and under, 11-16 years, and 17 and up will be awarded. Pumpkins must be picked up on Tuesday, October 31 or they will be discarded. For information check-in at or 847-663-6490.

Fandom Art Display

Are you a fan of fandom? A comic book fan?  And are you an artist? Display your Fandom Art at Fandom Fest!

Submissions will be displayed in the Franklin Gallery on the 3rd Floor for the month of August. Submissions accepted on Friday, July 14, 3:30-6:30pm and Saturday, July 22, 11am-2pm.
