Congratulations to Stevenson School, winners of the 2011-2012 Battle of the Books, and champions of the Niles vs. Morton Grove Championship Battle!

What is Battle of the Books?

4th, 5th and 6th graders from area schools battle it out in the fall by answering questions about 60 books on the Battle of the Books List. Culver, Nelson, St. John Brebeuf and Stevenson Schools field teams in this year’s exciting contest. Students who are interested in being on the teams should talk to their teachers.

All participants and their families are invited to a special ceremony featuring a children’s author in January.

Winners receive their name on the plaque at the library and battle the winner of the Morton Grove Public Library Battle of the Books.

Older students (grades 6-8) who attend a school in the Niles district can participate in Battle II: The Reading Challenge.

Below is the current Battle of the Books Reading List. The numbers in the parentheses after the titles show the number of years each book has been on the list, (1), (2), or (3). The books are generally on the list for three years and then they are removed, so that new books can be added.
