Adult & Outreach Services Department Head

The Adult & Outreach Services team members answer the toughest reference questions, deliver materials to homebound residents, and help people find the right book to read or DVD to watch. They build collections, create programs in and out of the library, and look for innovative ways to serve the community of Niles and unincorporated Maine Township. Are you the right person to lead this team?


  • Oversees all aspects of the Adult and Outreach Services staffing
  • Oversees the collections in all physical formats
  • Oversees development of a schedule of programs whose primary audience is adults 18+, based on analysis of previous programs and community interest
  • Collects, maintains, analyzes, and reports statistics about the collection, use of services, and programs
  • Prepares annual budget analysis and requests; monitors and controls spending of materials, programs and any designated committees
  • Prepares monthly departmental reports, and attends board meetings when requested
  • Represents the Library at community and outside events
  • Actively participates in the Library’s management team

 Salary Range: $53,820 - $85,088, depending on experience

Patron Services Assistant Supervisor

 Hours: Full-Time, 37.5 hours/week, must be available to work a combination of mornings, nights, and weekends

Salary: $27.48/hour

 The Niles-Maine District Library is currently accepting applications for the Patron Services Assistant Supervisor position.

 The Patron Services Assistant Supervisor is responsible for:

  • Helps in the interviewing, hiring and training of new staff
  • Oversees the scheduling of the Patron Services Department
  • Provides assistance to the Patron Services Supervisor in the management of the Patron Services Department
  • Helps with the performance evaluation of Patron Services Staff

 The Patron Services Department is responsible for:

  • Shelving recently returned materials
  • Pulling requested materials from the shelves
  • Assisting patrons both over the phone and at the service desk with questions regarding their account
  • Assists patrons with their holds
  • Self-check in and self-checkout and copiers
  • Registering patrons for new library cards
  • Registering patrons for programs
  • Passport Services
  • Notary Services
  • Voter Registration
  • Processing intralibrary loan materials

Skills/Experience/Education Needed: Must be at least 18 years of age. (3) years of library experience with a focus on customer service; retail experience preferred.  Position requires completion of Passport Acceptance Agent Training within 3 months of hire date.  Must perform Notary Duties.

Multimedia Assistant

Hours: 18 hours/week

One of America’s starred libraries is seeking a Multimedia Assistant in the PR & Marketing Department. If you want to work in an exciting, fast-paced environment, have a knack for graphic design, and would enjoy collaborating on creative projects…we want to hear from you!

During a typical day the Multimedia Assistant might:

  • Design print marketing materials to promote programs and services
  • Assist with creating merchandising displays to promote library collection
  • Update the Library’s electronic sign to promote programs and services
  • Publish online event listings and assist in writing for the Library’s blog
  • Take photos and videos at programs and events for promotional purposes
  • Assist with planning special events and participate in outreach events (occasional nights and weekends)
  • Assemble marketing materials by copying, folding, cutting, etc.
  • Maintain library bulletin boards and literature racks, deliver flyers and marketing collateral to area businesses, and other administrative tasks as assigned


  • Pursuing or completion of college degree in Communication, Graphic Design, Marketing, or related field
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
  • Experience with photography and video editing a plus
  • Well organized, creative, flexible, and detail-oriented
  • Able to handle a wide range of responsibilities and possess a “can do” attitude

Maker Space Specialist

Hours: PT/15 hrs. per week, must have evening and weekend availability
Salary: $15.50

The Niles-Maine District Library recently opened the Creative Studio Maker Space and we are looking for a self-motivated, innovative, and enthusiastic individual to provide friendly assistance to patrons using the space. As a member of the Digital Services Department you would be part of a collaborative team that works together to deliver exceptional technology assistance to the Library community.

Duties include…

  • Staff the Creative Studio Maker Space during open hours  
  • Provide instructional guidance for patrons using the laser cutter, vinyl cutter, 3D printers, sewing machine, embroidery machine and heat press
  • Assist patrons and staff with creative projects in the maker space
  • Provide training on maker space equipment to staff and patrons
  • Develop and deliver dynamic technology classes and maker programs

Patron Services Associate ll (2 Positions)

1)   Hours:  PT 16 hours/week, Wed & Thurs, 9 AM-5PM; and (1) Sunday per month 1-5 PM

2)    Hours: PT 14 hours/week, Wed, 3-9 PM; Sat, 8:30 AM-5 PM

Starting salary: $11.54/hr.

The Niles-Maine District Library is currently accepting applications for the Patron Services Department. Patron Services Associates greet and direct library patrons to materials and services. They perform Circulation, Information and Passport Desk functions, as well as other duties as assigned.

Major Responsibilities:

  • shelve recently returned materials
  • register patrons for library cards and programs
  • assist patrons with holds, using copiers, computers/printers, etc.
  • able to count money and perform basic operations on cash register
  • accept passport applications

The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude and excellent customer service skills. Will be able to work effectively with both patrons and staff.

Skills/Experience/Education Needed:

  • (1) year of library and/or retail experience with a focus on customer service
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Completion of Passport Acceptance Agent Training. Upon completion of Passport Acceptance Agent training, employee will become an Associate I
  • Ability to read, write and communicate verbally in English
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
