Patron Services Clerk

Three Positions Available:

(1)  Tues 5-9 PM, Thurs 1-5 PM, every other Sat 11 AM-5 PM (average 14 hrs/wk)

(2)  Mon 5-9 PM, Wed 5-9 PM, Fri 3-7 PM (12 hrs/wk)

(3)  Mon 1-5 PM, Wed 1-5 PM, Fri 1-5 PM, every other Sunday 1-5 PM (average 14 hrs/wk)

The Niles-Maine District Library is currently accepting applications for part-time positions in the Patron Services Department. Patron Services Clerks greet and direct library patrons to materials and services. They perform circulation and information desk functions as well as other duties as assigned. Major responsibilities will include assisting patrons with holds, using copiers, computers/printers, etc.; able to count money and perform basic operations on cash register; able to sort and shelve alphabetically and numerically. The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude and excellent customer service skills. Will be able to work effectively with both patrons and staff and have basic computer skills. Qualifications:  High School diploma or equivalent and customer service experience. Ability to read, write, and communicate verbally in English.  Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Starting salary $11.54/hr.

Internship Opportunity


Temporary KidSpace/Teen Summer Reading Challenge Assistant

Temporary position

20 hours per week (Fridays/Saturdays/Sundays)

Salary: $13/hr.

Are you flexible and friendly?  Do you genuinely like kids and teens?  We are looking for someone with excellent communication and customer service skills who is able to work primarily nights and/or weekends as needed in our busy KidSpace and Teen Underground this summer from the end of May through the end of June.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to: answering questions at the public service desk (often the same question over and over again), handing out high fives (to really excited readers), and engaging with kids as they check in for our Summer Reading Challenge.


  • Experience working with children and teens
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and technology skills
  • Preference given to MLS/MLIS students
