Annual Craft Swap at Niles-Maine District Library

About the Craft Swap

The library’s annual Craft Swap event is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to discover new crafting materials, people who want to try a new hobby, teachers looking for art supplies, and program coordinators or anyone who can put donated craft materials to good use. But the Craft Swap is not just for seasoned makers and crafters. Everyone is welcome!

The goal of the event is to give craft supplies to a new home and connect people with materials they can use and enjoy. By participating, you are helping keep art supplies out of the landfill while encouraging creativity and building a community of crafters!

Over the years, we’ve received some wonderfully unique items, including doll heads, antique silk yarn dating back to the early 1900s, and even a weaving station. You never know what you might discover at the Craft Swap!

Event Schedule

Before the event, participants can drop off unwanted craft supplies at the library. Donating is not required to attend the event, but participants who donate a full bag of craft supplies receive a ticket for early entry. Early-entry attendees receive one bag to fill with craft supplies.

At 10:00 a.m., the event opens for those who donated supplies. Then at 10:30 a.m., the event opens to everyone, including attendees who did not donate.

Between 10:30a.m.-12p.m., attendees can take as many library-provided bags as they need for the supplies they choose.

After the event, any unclaimed craft supplies will be placed on tables in the library vestibule. This gives people who were not able to attend—or who may not have known about the event—an opportunity to browse the remaining supplies and take materials they can use.

“This is our community Black Friday!” says library staff member, Bernadetta, “As soon as one Craft Swap ends, people are already asking when the next one will be.”
