Getting to Know AI

Whether you are familiar with some of the latest AI tools or are interested in learning more about the topic, this series of AI programs is an opportunity to learn how AI works, explore how it is being used in everyday life, and develop the skills needed to use AI thoughtfully and responsibly.

The library has partnered with Wright to Learn to present this series of programs. Wright to Learn approaches digital learning through four key design principles: equity, experience, storytelling, and community.  This approach makes Wright to Learn a strong partner for helping people build practical digital and AI skills while also developing the confidence to question, evaluate, and make informed decisions about technology.

Attendees of these programs can expect an approachable introduction to artificial intelligence, with opportunities to learn about common AI tools, ask questions, and explore practical examples. We hope that participants will leave these programs feeling more comfortable navigating this rapidly changing technology.

Participants will also learn that AI should be used as a tool, rather than automatically treated as a trusted source of information. The series will encourage attendees to ask questions, verify information, identify reliable resources, and think critically about what AI produces.

Library staff member Bernadetta is excited about the series because of the connection she sees between AI literacy and digital literacy. “I believe education can help people recognize the difference between reliable and unreliable information, know where to find trustworthy resources, and, most importantly, learn how to verify whether information is real or misleading. As AI becomes more common, knowing how to question, fact-check, and evaluate what we see and hear is just as important as knowing how to use the technology itself.”

This series of programs will be presented at the Niles Senior Center, Room 131.
