The Outreach Services Assistant will…
- Communicate with, gather materials for, and deliver library materials to patrons at home, schools, and other institutions
- Discharge returned materials upon receipt
- Drive van to delivery sites
- Provide advisory on print and AV materials to patrons by phone and in person
- Provide information services to all patrons at public-facing service points
- Assist patrons in using machinery, including self-check stations, printers, and scan/fax machines
- De-new and withdraw materials using prepared reports
- Accurately enter statistics and other data using Excel spreadsheets
- Assist librarians in marketing collections, including processing materials for display and creation of bibliographies
- Assist department librarians and supervisor with other clerical tasks as assigned
Requirements:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience preferred, high school diploma or GED required. Must have at least 2 years of public library or retail experience with a focus on customer service. Excellent customer service, communication, and technology skills; computer literacy, and excellent internet searching skills; proficiency with Microsoft Outlook Office Suite, especially Excel; willingness to embrace change and new technology; current driver’s license and evidence of a safe driving record; ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally transport/move up to 100 pounds.
Preference given to qualified applicants who are bilingual in English and proficient in Arabic, Korean, Polish, Russian, Spanish or any of the other 30 languages spoken in the homes of the patrons we are happy to serve.

Are you curious about new technology and helping people learn how to use it? We are looking for self-motivated, innovative, and enthusiastic individuals to provide friendly assistance to patrons using the technology area on the Lower Level. Help troubleshoot equipment throughout the Library, plan and execute technology, maker programs, and other training. As a member of the Digital Services Department, you would be part of a collaborative team that works together to deliver exceptional technology assistance to the library community.

- Staff the Tech Desk
- Provide instructional guidance for patrons using public computers, printers, copiers, and fax machines
- Assist patrons and staff with technology and online resource questions
- Develop and deliver dynamic programs and training classes
- Provide assistance using recording, editing and digitization tools in our digital media lab
Requirements:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience preferred, high school diploma or GED required; excellent customer services skills; ability to work well within a team and be adaptable to change; ability to coordinate and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills; interest in and knowledgeable about technology including maker technology and mobile technology; ability to troubleshoot technology issues calmly, patiently and effectively; enthusiasm for learning new technology skills and a passion for emerging technology; ability to communicate and work effectively with the public and all levels of library staff with tact and diplomacy.

Due to a retirement, the Niles-Maine District Library has an opening on its management team for a Facility Services Supervisor.
The Facility Services Supervisor will…
- Manage library building and ground; supervise bargaining unit staff
- Conduct routine inspections of 65,000 sq. ft. building and equipment
- Plan and supervise inspections, preventative maintenance, installations, and repairs of building infrastructure
- Assist with securing public bids or quotes for supplies and contracted maintenance
- Maintain safe, clean, and sanitary conditions throughout the building and grounds
- Manage meeting room set‐ups for library and public programs including special events
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent with a combination of maintenance education, experience, or training
- 3 years of experience in maintaining a physical plant and supervising staff
- Mechanical skill, initiative, and independent judgment
- Ability to work well within a team and adapt to change
- Ability to coordinate and prioritize tasks to meet demand and deadlines
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with all levels of library staff and the public with tact

Adult & Outreach Services Librarian will…
- Provide outstanding media advisory and information services to all patrons at public-facing service points within the building, and at community functions while representing the Library
- Develop collection areas as assigned, including selection and regular weeding
- Plan and implement programs for adults which promote our mission to inform, enrich, and educate
- Work with civic groups and committees to advocate Library card sign up and awareness of library services, events, and resources; table at community events as needed
- Offer effective bibliographies, database and research instruction to patrons as needed, including catalog navigation
- Market adult collections through regular assembly of attractive, enticing displays
- May include writing and executing grant proposals for special initiatives that serve our strategic plan

Comfortable visiting facilities and promoting all the Library has to offer? Able to manage noisy, active environments? Comfortable adapting to change? Do you play well with others?
We are looking for a candidate with the people and professional skills to provide outstanding customer service both in the Library, and as a specialist to the preschools and daycares within the Library District’s boundaries. Our Preschool & Daycare Liaison visits sites, provides storytimes, highlights library offerings, promotes teacher services, and hosts school visits to the Library. The position is responsible for the picture book collection, parenting books, and associated collections and bibliographies. Another primary responsibility is the annual Preschool & Daycare Fair, highlighting area providers. All librarians participate in the storytime rota and there are numerous existing programming opportunities on our very busy calendar. And of course, other duties as assigned.

We are looking for a candidate with the people and professional skills to provide outstanding customer weeknights for our working families and students. This position will primarily be based in KidSpace, however, occasional Teen Underground shifts will be part of your week. Program oversight will include Homework Help, Book Buddies, and KidSpace Volunteering amongst others. This position will collect DVDs, video games, and music within our department collection development strategy. And, of course, other duties as assigned.
